Dance is something that feels incredibly vulnerable to do. It does not matter how good a dancer you are. You take that awesome hip-hop dancer and put them in a ballet class and watch them struggle with their confidence.
Confidence is all in the mind. So when the confidence drops, especially when dancers become an expert in a particular style of dance, when they try a new style, it’s hard to not get caught up on not being great …
Because that dancer has been awesome in their style for a very long time, they forget all the time, energy and training they have put into their dance style to make it their own. So trying something new, they won’t automatically be great at it.
Now take someone who has never danced before and put them in front of people and ask them to dance… their confidence may be at a good level and once the cheering starts, their confidence sky rockets, as does their smile.
The truth about dance is, as long as you feel confident and just give it your all, it doesn’t matter what dance style you dance, or how basic or technical the moves are, people won’t be able to take their eyes off you. Because of your confidence, you just let go and dance.
Letting go and dancing, is what makes dancing look incredible.
So be confident. Watch the best dancers in your dance style, perform and find what you can take from it to use when you dance.
Dance brings me so much joy. I didn't actually realise how much!
I haven't danced in a trained environment for roughly 15 years, yet I still love to dance.
Recently, with a major life transformation, I turned on the music and started dancing and guess what? I could not wipe away the smile on my face. I finally felt free. I was able to let go of my troubles through the movement and emotions of dance.
I have always held back in dance yet this year I have decided (with most goals I want), there is no more holding back. There is just no point. Why hold back your own potential? You could be brilliant yet instead you hold back from that brilliance ... why?
With that use your emotions to let help you move with the music. Not only will you feel better, no matter if you are sad, angry or happy, you will have helped remove the stress from your body, feel better about yourself and have the confidence to move ahead with your situation.
Dancing is such a free spirited movement. When you dance, you let go of all thoughts and prospects of anybody watching and if they do, well who cares. Right in this moment, it is you and the movement. You feel the music. You feel the emotion the music evokes and then you let your body write the story that you may want to just share with yourself or with others. But either way, you have let go. You have felt a touch of freedom.
Dance is hypnotic.
Dance is free speech.
Dance is a something that nobody can take away from you.
Imagine what it would be like
Will.i.am said in an interview, how his mother would never let him go further from the corner of his front yard. So he would stand at the corner of his front yard and dance. Can you imagine walking past a child, dancing near the street? Just aching to move his body and letting rhythm take over. He didn't care who was watching. He just danced.
Dance as if nothing is tearing you down
Forget who is watching. Lose yourself to the music and movement and feel what it's like to feel free. Free of all life dramas, free of all all else that is happening in your life right now.
Live in the moment with dance
People might see dancing as a escape from reality. The truth is, dancing is helping you live in the moment. As you focus only on that very moment, where your feet touch the floor and the music touches your soul and you know but only to begin to dance.
