Dance as if nobody is watching

Finding freedom in dance

Dancing is such a free spirited movement. When you dance, you let go of all thoughts and prospects of anybody watching and if they do, well who cares. Right in this moment, it is you and the movement. You feel the music. You feel the emotion the music evokes and then you let your body write the story that you may want to just share with yourself or with others. But either way, you have let go. You have felt a touch of freedom.

Dance is hypnotic.

Dance is free speech.

Dance is a something that nobody can take away from you.

Imagine what it would be like said in an interview, how his mother would never let him go further from the corner of his front yard. So he would stand at the corner of his front yard and dance. Can you imagine walking past a child, dancing near the street? Just aching to move his body and letting rhythm take over. He didn't care who was watching. He just danced.

Dance as if nothing is tearing you down

Forget who is watching. Lose yourself to the music and movement and feel what it's like to feel free. Free of all life dramas, free of all all else that is happening in your life right now.

Live in the moment with dance

People might see dancing as a escape from reality. The truth is, dancing is helping you live in the moment. As you focus only on that very moment, where your feet touch the floor and the music touches your soul and you know but only to begin to dance.

What dancing should be ...

Dancing for me is fun!

I love to dance and I love that I can just let free. What is dancing to you?

I found this dance video on YouTube and I feel they just let loose. They look to be free spirits and just having fun! I appreciate their bright coloured attire's and cool outdoor backdrop.

Sometimes as dancers, we forget to just let loose and have fun! We focus too much on the mistakes we make (when nobody else even noticed!)

Next time you turn on the music, just dance, let loose and see your smile come up.

The freedom of music

Image via: Tumblr

Do you ever wish that when a song really moves you, you could just break out and dance?

Sometimes I do, I get up and dance and it feels so fulfilling. Yet, other times I feel dissatisfied as if I can't seem to catch the music with the dance and I am not talking about my rhythm.

It appears the music has already reached this emotional level, yet as it's the first time I am hearing the music, I haven't already choreographed a dance. So could it be that I feel the more rehearsed the dance routine is, the more I can let go of my emotions throughout the movement to really show what the music and dance movements mean to me?

I think so.

I love free movement in dance and do a lot of it but I also love knowing the steps first so I can practice, practice and practice until the steps are memorised so I can really start to feel the music and let the emotions come through, each extension, each hand movement and expression to meet the heightened piece of music that makes my heart and legs want to leap.

Hip hop dance attitude

What makes hip hop dancing great

Hip hop is not just dancing, each movement pulls out attitude to go with the music.

Think about facing your ex after a bitter break up: Punchy hip hop moves and positions, along with the attitude of facing them.

A group of hip hop dancers needs to have tight choreography, hitting the beats, great music and costumes.

Most importantly, you need to own it. With any type of dancing, you need to know the steps and choreography so well that you can focus on just bringing the right attitude and owning it. This is your dance, so prove it. You have one shot to prove yourself and get your message across through this platform.

Dance basic instructions for beginners

Image via: Udemy

Why you should dance

Dancing is fun!

I have never danced and thought this is not fun, ever. I even used to train to be a ballerina, tough classes but worth it.

Basic dance instructions to get you moving

Just go for it. Do it now. Stand up, turn on the music and just bounce to the beat, you know where you body has a slight bounce, or sway to the beat. Let your head relax and bop.

Of course it depends what music you are listening to.

Play with your hands, do twists, turns, roll together and add your arms to add height and then use your shoulders to really extenuate the movement.

Now get your waist moving side to side. Let your hips sway you further. Push that butt out. Now bounce.

Use you feet and legs to help you bounce, shake your head to the movement. Now your whole body is moving.

Now it's time to dance ...

Get ready ...

Now press play

Hip Hop and street dancers, this is some of the hottest hip hop moves ever

Hip Hop's Hottest Moves

I was looking for a new dance workout to go with my Get Fit Daily Exercise Motivation blog, when I discovered this.

Now of course, the first lot of dancers are, I honestly loved it. I tried for about 20 minutes to learn all the moves from the first group, which once you play it, you will know how difficult it is, with the sheer fastness of the dance moves.

But honestly, this is awesome. Are you looking for some motivation?

It's now or never. Challenge yourself to the ultimate hip hop party:

Let go of not being good enough

"Dancing doesn't have a destination." ~ Melanie Toye

As a dancer, it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that you are not good enough. You just need to watch reality TV dance shows and see the incredible dance talent that other people have or watch dance videos on YouTube.

You have two choices and I hope you choose the latter:
  1. Give up and rip out a part of your soul and sense of freedom
  2. Realise this...
There will always be somebody better but when you simply focus your own improvement by challenging your own level, then you will succeed. Because succeeding is continuing and as long as you continue, you succeed.

Dancing has no barriers

I used to believe that at a certain age you could physically not dance, yet I have seen eighty years olds dance and dance well. I used to also think there were no dance opportunities but there are multitudes, you simply need to be open with your pathways.

Remember this ...

It's really important that you don't let go of your passions, instead you embrace them and let their magic power steer you in how to live your life. You will always be good enough, if not better than what you think you are. Be courageous and see where it takes you.
